This new school was built on land previously owned by the City of Canada Bay, used for community activities and recreational purposes. The project combines education and community facilities with a 600 student school, 47 place Long Day Care Centre and an Early Childhood Health Centre. A replacement building for the existing Lapidary Club was also provided nearby.

The design concept was prepared by the NSW Government Architects Office, and Pedavoli Architects were engaged to complete design development and tender documentation.

The site included areas of contamination. A Remediation Action Plan was prepared, and the site remediation works were carried out prior to construction of the new school. The western boundary is parallel to an elevated motorway, requiring enhanced acoustic treatments and ventilation strategies. The site masterplan located the new buildings at the north of the rectangular site, with pedestrian and vehicle connection to Concord West. Sports fields occupy the southern portion of the site. The Hall is located at the south-west, adjacent to the principal entry, enabling community access and use outside of school hours.

The school buildings are a combination of single and two-storeys, arranged around the perimeter of the site to create a sheltered, central open space for assembly and play. Individual learning spaces are arranged in a linear form, each one accessed from an external verandah, bounding the central open space. Purpose designed spaces for students with special needs are located on ground level, with a semi-private outdoor space linked to the central play area.

The building fabric is conventional. Structural systems include a concrete framed first floor and structural steel roof framing. The cladding is a combination of face brickwork, metal wall cladding and roofing. These off-the-shelf materials were selected for cost-effectiveness, buildability and long term durability.
