Cooma TAFE

The new Customer Service / Student Support Building is located along the main front boundary to Commissioner Street, Cooma, with a new paved and landscaped public entry to the east of the building entry and new public car parking to the east of the forecourt area.

From an urban planning context, the building is given pride of place on the site, reinforcing both the building’s significance and public nature. This design concept is further emphasised by the public open space adjacent. The new building is in keeping with the local context and scale of buildings. The palette of materials used expands upon a series of materials used elsewhere on the site and includes an enduring and robust selection – featuring large recycled timber columns and beams, polished blockwork and metal wall cladding that displays frameless glass shopfronts with zinc clad blade wall elements.

The long standing relationship with TAFE NSW has produced several projects across the Cooma campus. These design solutions have included the Trade Training Café and Kitchen / Hospitality wing complete with Student services, and a multi-purpose trades facility including a Construction and Building facility. With significant upgrades having been designed and completed for multiple buildings on the campus, Pedavoli Architects have continued to follow up the master planning and works with a series of components and partial upgrades that will allow the local district to continue training and offering their services to students.
