The term ‘modern slavery’ is used to describe situations where adults and children are exploited because they have been coerced, threatened or deceived. It describes situations where a person’s freedom and dignity have been taken away. The term is defined in section 5 of the Modern Slavery Act 2018 (NSW).
Pedavoli Architects is not subject to reporting requirements under the Commonwealth Modern Slavery Act 2018 (NSW). The practice has a zero-tolerance approach to modern slavery and adverse human rights impacts.
We acknowledge that the nature and extent of modern slavery means that there is a risk that it is present in Pedavoli Architects’ operations and supply chains. The implementation of processes to eliminate or minimise the risk of the goods or services supplied being products of modern slavery is an opportunity for Pedavoli Architects to use our influence and purchasing power to create genuine change.
Measures taken by the practice to address Modern Slavery Risks include:
— Our usual supply chain for materials, manufactured goods and services used by and within the practice prioritises local (Australian) sources who obtain goods locally and overseas.
— When specifying products, we review the available information from Suppliers’ regarding their supply chain and management of Modern Slavery risks.
— Encouraging our staff to be vigilant to the potential of Modern Slavery and empower them to raise any concerns or observations they may have about potential instances of Modern Slavery in our operations or supply chains.
