Killara Residence

The project called for an addition to the rear of a federation era home on a steeply sloping site. Through a pavilion style addition to the rear, we aimed to achieve a heightened connection to the garden and leafy vista beyond.

Working in collaboration with Arnold Lane Interiors and Melissa Wilson Landscape Architect, the project was a comprehensive renewal of the entire property. The additions consisted of a new living pavilion, lower level garage and entertainment room, pool refurbishment and new tennis court.

The living room pavilion has a roof form that is detached from the existing roof. This allowed for a highlight window at the full perimeter of the space, enhancing the connection to the exterior environment and increasing the amount of natural daylight penetrating deep into the space. Considering the significant level of embodied energy in the existing dwelling, much of the original house was retained – improving its sustainability and reducing its environmental impact.
