Ngarala Public School

Ngarala Public School was completed in 2022. The school, located on the land of the Wallumedegal People, caters for 600 students from kindergarten to Year 6.

The site narrative is derived from the network of trees on the site and the local area. The trees rely on a symbiotic relationship with the soil. The network is expressed in the built form, landscaping as well as the signage and graphics for the site.

The buildings’ three storey scale is intermediary between the single and two storey residential dwellings to the north and the 5 storey Epping Park Development to the south. It is setback from the road sufficiently to allow a landscape buffer to nurture the existing trees in the zone and allow for new proposed landscaping. This provides visual privacy between the residential dwellings and the school.

The material palette is inspired by the Sydney Blue Gum forest that is prevalent across the site. Neutral light and dark grey tones are proposed to be used in conjunction with accented colours that are derived from the colours found on the Sydney Blue Gum’s bark.

The landscape design and signage complement the built form.  They contribute to the Connecting with Country narrative and create an opportunity for students to connect to the place and it’s culture and history.
