Central Sydney Intensive English High School
We were engaged as Head Design Consultant for the relocation of the Sydney Central Intensive English High School, formerly known as Cleveland Street IEHS, to a new premises at Mitchell Road, Alexandria.
The project included refurbishment of existing Federation era buildings and construction of a new building, designed to suit the needs of the school whose population fluctuates from 200 to 350 during each school year. The CSIEHS is a unique institution that shares modern educational principles with a special pedagogy adapted to the students it hosts. The school prepares students from various socio/cultural backgrounds for life in Australia within an academic environment, before placement in mainstream education settings. The school provides teaching and learning experiences through theoretical and practical elements.
To support the particular needs of the student cohort, a more home-base approach to the accommodation was implemented. Various specialist facilities (Library, Science room, TAS, Music/Performance, Art or Food Technology) provide the necessary introduction into the curriculum that will be required when the student has transitioned into a state High School.
