Potts Point Apartment

Considering the site’s history & heritage, this project embodies a conversation between its preservation/restoration and the design & implementation of six contemporary apartments — each of which endeavour to find harmony between old and new.

Pedavoli Architects carried out a façade upgrade of the building, rebuilding the cantilevered balcony while taking care to retain its existing character. We see a narrative of old marrying with new as the individual progresses from exterior to interior. In the foyer, restoration of the stained-glass windows and flooring was key to preserving the charm of the existing interior.

An additional floor was inserted into the roof space, gently puncturing through without compromising the original form. High ceilings & timber joinery characterise the apartments’ interiors - a nod to the building’s existing elements while embracing a sleek and contemporary design.
