Murrumbateman Public School
The Murrumbateman Public School sits on the traditional lands of the Ngunawal People, and provides a new primary school for this growing community. The new school was designed to accommodate just under 400 students.
The school has been developed in close collaboration with the consultant team to bring together the natural environment, surrounding landscape, and Aboriginal history of the local area. Its horseshoe configuration creates a buffer for the open plan space amongst the indoor and outdoor learning environments that increases safety and comfort for the students while, still being visually accessible to its surrounds. The school’s sustainable design utilises solar access, water harvesting, and landscaping to maximise active and passive play spaces on the grounds. Pedavoli also worked closely with the local Elders to best incorporate important narratives and forms within the design through curves and materiality.
The project melds learning spaces and the central courtyard, providing for flexibility in teaching and learning in the school’s program. It is flexible in its accommodation of developing teaching and learning methodologies.
