Barramurra Public School

Having been completed in 2021, Barramarra Public School can now educate 1000 students from Kindergarten to Year 6. The school is located on Dharawal land, and their language is used to name spaces and places throughout the campus.

Connecting with Country through consultation and research in the design process was of primary importance to Pedavoli Architects. Working with the consultant team, we endeavored to embed Country through landscape, signage and built form wherever possible.

The built form wraps the site’s southern, eastern and western edges, inviting the sun into the classrooms and creating a protected, central ‘heart’ to the school. Burramarra Public School integrates extensive landscaping with an articulated façade. A visual break in the built form creates a welcoming entry, complimented by signage and landscape.

The flexible design, featuring operable walls and large open spaces, offers a variety of learning environments to serve the needs of current and future pedagogies. The school was built using a combination of modular offsite construction and conventional onsite construction. The variation in construction methodologies allows the design to be of its place while ensuring a timely and high-quality construction process.
