Dubbo Regional Theatre & Convention Centre
Dubbo Regional Theatre & Convention Centre is a state-of-the-art performing arts centre, housing a 500-seat tiered theatre. Built next to a 1970s designed Civic Centre, the project boasts an angled façade that relates to the public park across Darling Street while respecting the neighbouring solid building form.
There was a primary focus on the acoustic performance of the building – the theatre was carefully designed to minimise reverberations and maximise sound insulation within the performance space. One of the theatre’s primary features is the large, almost sculptural, timber acoustic device that couples the stage with the auditorium, while refracting and interrupting sound waves in order to reduce flutter echo and disperse sound as evenly and efficiently as possible. Bright red seating pays homage to the traditional theatre aesthetic and works harmoniously with the interior palette.
